Eupnea is a mode of breathing that occurs at rest and within meditative states and that doesn’t require cognitive thought. mi$$-Eupnea invites us to slow our breathing as a way of becoming more connected to community, the places we reside, and even our own bodies.

In acclaimed artist Hannah Brontë’s new collection of audiovisual works a circle of orange segments creates a portal into a gathering of shared stories, with each slice offering a different human perspective to be slowly digested.

Brontë has selected six people in her life who she feels are indelibly connected to their intuition and an innate knowing, and created six audiovisual works that explore their experiences of sitting in nature. Each video tells the story of that person’s ideas of where nature forces them to be slow, and these conversations are overlaid with natural imagery produced in Brontë trademark visual style.

This era talks about connection more than any other, but it’s one defined by distance. Humans evolved in circles – central communities, a central fire – and here the orange is a symbolic circle bringing our attention back to a shared point. Every few days a new slice will allow another angle of this common experience to be seen, but don’t get too impatient – time slows down in the realm of mi$$-Eupnea.

This footage was filmed all over Country on Hannah Brontë’s travels, on the lands of the: Jagera, Turrabal, Arakal, Yugambeh, Bundjalung, Ngairakbal, Githabal, Minjungbal, Undanbi, Gubbi Gubbi, Nunukl, Gorenpul, Gadigal Peoples with respect to Elders past, present and all ancestors and lineage connected to these lands.

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
